Parent Code of Conduct

As a parent/guardian of a SEHA representative player you must abide by the following in regard to your conduct during any activity related to the team’s training or games:

  1. Remember that your child participates in sport for their own enjoyment, not yours.
  2. Focus on your child’s effort and performance rather than winning or losing.
  3. Never ridicule or yell at your child or another child for making a mistake or losing a game.
  4. Show appreciation for a good performance and skilful play by all players.
  5. Parents/Guardians will remain away from the dugout during training and matches.
  6. While vocal support is encouraged during training and matches, you should never instruct players from the sideline to avoid confusing the players. Directives regarding play, field positioning etc. should only come from the team Coach and Manager.
  7. Show respect for your team’s opponents.
  8. Be aware that you are not only representing SEHA but also your club and family.
  9. Respect Official’s decisions and encourage children to do likewise.
  10. Do not verbally or physically harass anyone associated with the sport (Coach, Manager, Player and Umpires)
  11. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, ability, cultural background or religion.
  12. Realise that bullying, physical and verbal abuse, neglect or any other type of abuse is absolutely unacceptable conduct in the sport of hockey.
  13. Consumption of alcohol should be in moderation when in charge of minors. Please remember that some clubs and venues have a “No Alcohol” policy within their grounds which you must abide by.
  14. Any breach of the above Code will be dealt with in the following way:
  1. A warning will be given by the Manager, Coach or Member of the SEHA Committee.
  2. Another breach of the Code will result in your child sitting in the dugout for the remainder of the training or game.
  3. Any further breach of the Code will result in you being requested to leave the hockey game/tournament/training with your child. Further action may be taken depending on the circumstances of the infringement.

SEHA gives the coaches and managers of all our teams the authority to take the actions as stated above.
